A Brief Overview
The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for providing quality care for patients and increasing patient access and satisfaction. Standard tasks to be performed by a NP/PA as specified by the Ohio State Board of Medicine and UH entity specific Medical Bylaws.
What You Will Do
- Patient Care and Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for pain management in collaboration with supervising physicians.
- Monitor and evaluate patient progress, modifying treatment plans as necessary.
- Treatment and Procedures
- Prescribe medications, including opioids, non-opioid analgesics, and adjuvant therapies, within state and federal regulations.
- Perform minimally invasive procedures (e.g., trigger point injections, joint injections) as credentialed and appropriate.
- Assist in advanced interventional pain management procedures (e.g., epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation trials).
- Education and Counseling
- Educate patients and families about pain management strategies, medication use, potential side effects, and lifestyle modifications.
- Provide guidance on non-pharmacologic interventions, including physical therapy, mindfulness, and other complementary therapies.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.
- Participate in case conferences and provide input into complex patient care plans.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, including DEA, state licensure, and pain management best practices.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to clinic policies and protocols.
- Professional Development
- Stay current with advancements in pain management practices, including evidence-based guidelines, emerging treatments, and regulations.
- Maintain certification and licensure requirements through continuing education and professional development.

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications
Education Qualifications
(MSN) Master's Degree in Nursing, or
Master's Degree from an accredited PA educational program
Experience Qualifications
1+ years as a NP or PA Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership skills. (Required proficiency)
- Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relationships. (Required proficiency)
- Must have computer skills to access patient medical data from UHHS mainframe. (Required proficiency)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Ohio, and
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the State of Ohio, or
- Current Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Ohio
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Required and
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Preferred
