Assistant District Attorney - Rikers Island Prosecution Join the City of New York as an Assistant District Attorney - Rikers Island Prosecution . The Bronx District Attorney’s Office seeks qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds to serve the 1.4 million residents of Bronx County and promote fair justice. The Rikers Island Prosecutions Bureau (RIPB), part of the Investigations Division, investigates and prosecutes crimes on Rikers Island, including contraband smuggling, arson, serious assaults, sex offenses, attempted murder, and murder cases. RIPB is looking for an Investigative Assistant District Attorney to conduct investigations and trials. Job Responsibilities Conduct investigations Organize and present grand jury presentations Prosecute cases from investigations, including discovery obligations, drafting motions and responses Engage in plea negotiations, conduct hearings and trials Maintain current knowledge of investigative methods and relevant law Analyze trends of violence on Rikers Island and develop strategies for investigations and prosecutions Participate in meetings and conferences with law enforcement agencies Communicate effectively both orally and in writing across organizational levels Be available nights, weekends, and holidays Rotate between the Bronx DA’s main office and the satellite office on Rikers Island Minimum Qualifications Juris Doctorate and admission to the NY State Bar in good standing US Citizenship and NY State residency from the first day of employment At least 3 years of investigative and trial experience, especially in organized criminal activity Trial experience involving gangs, contraband, arson, assaults, sex offenses, attempted murder, and murder Knowledge of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Strong legal writing and communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise good judgment, and uphold ethics Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel Ability to work independently and collaboratively Knowledge of NYS courts and criminal justice system Residency in NY is required.
