SUMMARY

Are you looking for a fulfilling, creative and collaborative environment to provide speech services to students? Would you like to work in the garden, attend field trips, have your own office? Are you looking to provide direct services to students without completing assessments? Then the San Diego Center for Children Academy is the place for you.

Our program provides school-based, speech-language services for youth with special needs. The Speech and Language Pathologist will follow Individual Education Plans and work with students in the areas of pragmatics, fluency, voice and language. They provide prevention and remediation services for students to meet their educational goals, while collaborating with school and district staff. They attend and develop IEPs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Organize a program that addresses the speech and language goals of the students.
Work cooperatively with school personnel to accomplish goals and objectives of the local education agency.
Maintain records of the speech-language program and prepare quarterly reports.
Analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding the needs for speech-language services.
Provide appropriate information on an informal or formal basis regarding speech-language program.
Supervise undergraduate interns, paraprofessionals, volunteers and other professionals (as appropriate).
Collaborate/consult with classroom teachers in the management of speech-language disorders.
Plan evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students.
Use evidence-based methods and techniques appropriate to stated objectives.
Adjust intervention strategies based upon student performance.
Promote effective interpersonal relations with students.
Develop appropriate IEP goals based on student’s strengths and needs.
Engage in continuing education and professional growth activities related to speech-language and education.
Provide consultation to parents, teachers and other appropriate school personnel.
Seek assistance of teachers, parents and others to meet the communication needs of the students.
Consult/communicate with non-school agencies to enhance services.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises interns, if appropriate. Carry out student supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret medical records, journals, reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management and public groups.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstracts and concrete variables.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology
Licensed in Speech Pathology

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Experience in a school setting
