American Power Systems (APS) seeks a highly skilled and self-driven UPS Technician to support our growing Service team. This role is critical in maintaining and supporting backup power infrastructure across telecom, data center, industrial, and utility markets. You’ll perform maintenance and repair work, support new installations and commissioning efforts, and respond to emergency service needs.

Key Responsibilities

Preventive Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform battery testing, load bank testing, and environmental checks on UPS systems
• Troubleshoot and repair failures in power modules, batteries, capacitors, and other components
• Complete detailed documentation of work performed, including test results and service logs
• Develop preventive maintenance schedules based on manufacturer and customer requirements.

Installations, Start-Ups, & Technical Support

• Support and oversee UPS system installations, load testing, and acceptance testing
• Provide technical support to customers remotely or on-site
• Train customer staff on basic system operation and maintenance

DC Power Systems

• Install and maintain battery strings, rectifier plants, inverters, converters, and cabling.
• Conduct load testing and prepare technical reports for customers

Project Coordination & Customer Visits

• Collaborate with internal teams to coordinate field projects
• Conduct periodic standby visits to customer sites for system checks and minor maintenance

Professional Development & Training

• Stay current on industry best practices, new technologies, and OEM certifications

What You Bring

• 3+ years of experience as a UPS Technician or in a closely related technical role
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical/electronic systems
• Knowledge of installation codes and safety standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, NFPA)
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and communicate effectively with customers
• Willingness to travel frequently, including overnight stays
• Comfortable working in technical environments, including IT rooms and mechanical spaces
• Physical ability to lift to 75 lbs, work from ladders, and perform tasks in varied conditions
• Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and DOT physical/blood draw.
